A STAINED-GLASS WINDOW FOR 1,000 YEARS
by Marion Wegrowe, France, 2015, FIFMA 2016 selection, 51 min To celebrate its 1,000 year centenary, Strasbourg Cathedral has added a new stained-glass window to the St. Catherine Chapel. The photographer Véronique Ellena was chosen to produce the work. After capturing 150 anonymous faces, the artist then placed them side by side and composed, on one side of the atrium window, a monumental representation of the Christ blessing, inspired by a painting by Hans Memling. On the other side of the window, she pays tribute to the beauties of nature. Her work was produced in association with the great master glassmaker Pierre-Alain Parot. |
