Come and discover this temple of the French nation which developed over the centuries in pace with our country’s history.
In seeking to create an outstanding example of religious architecture, Soufflot was enacting Louis XV’s wish to produce a building to suitably honour the glory of the monarchy, as represented by Saint Geneviève, the patron saint of Paris, to whom the building was dedicated.
In 1791, the French Revolution saw this monument being transformed into a temple to Great Men while in the 19th century its purpose was sometimes religious and sometimes patriotic depending on the regime in power.
Since 1885, the year in which Victor Hugo entered the Panthéon, the building has once again been a place of rest for the nation’s great men: Voltaire, Rousseau, Zola, Pierre and Marie Curie… and since 1 July 2018, Simone Veil.

NEW : an amazing 360° view across Paris thanks to the newly available access to the colonnade
